What we love about Romain Costa
French architect and influencer Romain Costa lives and works in Paris, where he co-founded the architecture studio Costa Molinos. When he’s not busy concepting and drawing plans for the firm’s global client base, Romain keeps us inspired through his Instagram account @romaincosta_ where he expresses his endless creativity by seamlessly straddling the worlds of architecture, fashion and lifestyle.
Self-styled the “architect on a walk”, Romain’s content is steeped in his personal aesthetic that combines clean, minimalist lines with a conscious use of materials and a powerful message of inclusivity, which are all values we wholeheartedly share here at THE RAYY.
Our collaboration
The FACETS collection is inspired by the abstract beauty of contemporary architecture. Its studied use of shape and proportion. Its ability to channel the laws of science and advances in technology to manipulate space. Its tendency to absorb and reflect the light of the sun in novel ways. These are all characteristics that Romain Costa highlights in his work as well as through his impactful Instagram feed, which is what makes him the quintessential ambassador for our architectural aesthetic. We also share a deep connection with the color blue. The many shades of blue found in nature are very prominent in Romain’s imagery on Instagram whereas THE RAYY's brand DNA is rooted in a pigment called outreciel blue that is two shades beyond reality. Romain’s use of blue creates a bridge between nature and architecture. THE RAYY places blue in the context of an augmented nature, a perspective that is the inspiration behind our collections.
For this collaboration, Romain chose to customize the FACETS pendant made from recycled 18k white gold. The necklace is accented by a stainless-steel alloy mirror on which a hidden portrait is encoded by THE RAYY's patented algorithm and revealed when the sun’s rays caress the pendant.
So, what’s Romain Costa’s hidden message?
For Romain Costa, Blanca Miró Skoudy’s ‘HOT as the sun’ portrait, inspired by the fire element, is a tribute to one of his earliest personal and creative influences: his maternal grandmother. “An Algerian pied noir with delicate features, she was a strong and independent woman and her skin smelled like the sun. I remember she always wore a necklace, sometimes even several that intertwined on her chest. For my grandmother, jewelry had a story, a meaning.”
